When considering undergraduates for the lab, Dr. Sosa is looking for people who are curious, enthusiastic about science, and highly motivated. Training in science requires time and repetition to develop technical skills and scientific thinking, so undergraduates will typically be expected to be able to work in the lab for at least 1 year (ideally more), and to commit to a minimum of 10 hours within the work week (Monday-Friday).
Before you contact Dr. Sosa about a research opportunity, please ensure that you:
Read about the lab's research on this website
Confirm that at least 10 hours of lab work a week works for your schedule -- please be aware that the lab is off campus (but we have convenient solutions to get to and from the lab)
If you are interested in a potential research opportunity, please email Dr. Sosa (Marielena.Sosa@colorado.edu) with:
A cover letter in email (1-2 paragraphs) describing any past research experience (it is ok if you don't have any!), your specific interests in the lab (why this lab and why this specific type of research), what you hope to learn in the lab, and how being a part of the lab fits with your future career goals
Please keep in mind that there are often many more talented undergraduates than there are positions in the lab, and there are many wonderful research opportunities at CU Boulder!
